BILLING EXPLAINED

We offer a reduced rate first appointment for certain matters. This allows us to assess your matter as to the best approach and as to the best pricing structure for your matter.  Our billing is based on the scaled costs as set by the Legal Costs Committee or an agreed fixed price if a smaller matter. We pride ourselves on total transparency in billing.

We offer 3 price structures:

• Fixed/Package Billing - For matters which we know the approximate cost we can quote you a price inclusive of further appointments, communication, disbursements, paralegal and secretarial work. 

• Value Billing - This is a NewLaw concept in legal billing. It moves the billing from the Lawyers point of view to the Clients point of view.. More specifically it looks and your goals and the value of reaching such goals. This may be an overall fixed charge or fixed fees when certain mile stones are reached no matter how many hours are spent on it. It works well for minor claims and tenancy disputes In essence matters which prohibit lawyers representing clients at court but can assist clients navigate the path to the best outcome.

• Time Billing - This is a traditional approach  to billing where you are billed per unit with each unit being an increment of 6 mins (or part of). It still has its place and in particular Magistrate Court and State Administrative Tribunal  matters due to a lower scale determined by the Legal Cost Committee for such matters compared to the higher scale for non-contentious matters. However if the work can be undertaken by a paralegal or law graduate then the unit scale cost is considerably lower than if the work undertaken by a Lawyer. We will ensure you are always billed at the most economical rate possible..

We will advise as to the most cost effective method of billing. Payment plans are available on request.

Our business currently operates as a fully mobile service, including home, hospital or nursing home visits, returning if documents need signing or matters ongoing. We can incorporate the visits into a package price. We do not charge travel time within the Bunbury/Australind area for an initial consultation.

We can also organise appointments by zoom or teams. This is particularly useful for verification of identities which must be complied with for all settlements
